Registered Nurse (RN)

Position Description

The RN will provide in-home services to clients with severe and persistent mental illness. Position is responsible for meeting the nursing service needs of agency consumers by providing competent standards of care in direct and indirect care roles. The RN will assist clients with medical aspects of their care through administering and distributing medications, assessing for medication side effects, and educating about medications taken to ensure clients’ informed consent. The RN will work in conjunction with others on the ACT Team to provide comprehensive services for clients in their homes. This position involves shift coverage for ACT Team, including morning and evening hours, as well as rotating on-call duty overnights and holidays.

Qualifications

Appropriate candidates must meet the following qualifications:

· Graduation from an accredited nursing program and licensed to practice nursing in the state of Virginia

· Minimum requirements are

o Registered nurse with one year of experience in the provision of mental health services to adults with serious mental illness;

· Current Basic Cardiac Life Support Certificate or eligibility to be obtained

· Able to read, analyze, and interpret policies and directions and present information effectively, both orally and in writing.

· Thorough knowledge and understanding of basic nursing services and procedures.

· Working knowledge of psychiatric disorders, including the diagnosis and treatment, and of psychotropic, antidepressant, and anti-Parkinson medications and side effects.

· Some knowledge of counseling theory and technique, crisis intervention services, and guidelines for emergency detention and commitment. Familiarity with PACT/ACT and community-based model of treatment.

Position Responsibilities

1. Medication Management

a. Medication administration/delivery, including oral and intra-muscular medications.

b. Maintain proper storage, securing and documentation of all medications as required by agency policy and pharmacy license.

c. Monitor side effects, contraindications and drug reactions.

2. Health Teaching and Health Education

a. Provide education needs related to medications and physical health teaching as identified by the needs of the consumer.

b. Provide consultation/education to agency staff around client needs.

3. Multidisciplinary Team participation

a. Participate in daily treatment team staffing to discuss treatment planning and client progress.

b. Collaborate with other professionals on Team to provide comprehensive services.

c. Provide supervision of LPN(s).

4. Document all service contacts accurately and in a timely basis in accordance with agency policy.

5. Apply and adhere to the Ethical Standards applicable to the nursing profession and licensure.

6. Establish and maintain a treatment relationship with the consumer providing face-to-face services to the consumer in the home, the community, and with other agencies and family as appropriate.

7. Participate in the development of individualized treatment/recovery/rehabilitation/wellness plans, overseeing the identification of resource development and delivery of appropriate clinical specialty services.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $75,000.00 - $85,000.00 per year
